The Ferris State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams achieved new milestones at the Al Owens Classic, hosted by Grand Valley State in Allendale. The Bulldogs left the event with two school records, a NCAA Division II National Provisional Qualifying performance, and 11 top-10 program showings.
Overall, Ferris State secured 25 top-eight finishes across the weekend. Whitney Farrell earned runner-up honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a school-record and NCAA Division II qualifying time of 10:48.79. The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Lacey Zimmerman, Angela Kotecki, Abby Winkle, and Allie Delost set a school record with a third-place time of 47.78.
In the 4x400-meter relay, Winkle, Englund, Kendra Montague, and Darnesha Fraley achieved a second-place finish with a time of 4:00.15, ranking as the fourth-best in school history. In individual performances, Winkle also took fourth in the 400 meters, Delost fifth in the 100 meters, and Fraley fifth in the 200 meters.
The Bulldogs saw strong performances in hurdles, long jump, and shot put, with standout efforts from Ferris State's athletes in each event. Hunter Richardson of the men's team won the discus and took runner-up in the shot put, with his discus throw entering the top 10 in the school's history.
Meanwhile, the men’s 4x100-meter relay team finished third, and Hayden Josef secured a third-place finish in the high jump. The 4x400-meter relay squad claimed the 10th-best time in program records.
Individuals on the men's team also achieved notable finishes across various events, with multiple entries made into the school's all-time performance lists.
Ferris State will continue their competitive season at the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet on April 26 and the GLIAC Championships scheduled from April 30 to May 2 in Allendale.
