Ferris State University's softball team successfully swept Roosevelt University in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup held in Big Rapids on April 5. The home team achieved two wins, the first by a score of 7-1 and the second 4-1, marking Roosevelt's first visit to Ferris State.
The Bulldogs currently stand at an overall record of 17-11 for the season and have a balanced GLIAC record of 6-6. In the first game, they accrued nine hits against Roosevelt's five, shaking off an initial 1-1 tie with a decisive four-run performance in the third inning, complemented by further runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Emma Gillard and Bailey McCalister excelled offensively, with McCalister contributing three RBIs, the highest of the game, and hitting one of the team's two doubles alongside Emily Killion. Gillard hit a triple and scored a run, supported by teammates Alexis Kozlowski, Addison Wangler, and Killion. The Bulldogs also stole five bases. Pitcher Catherine O'Donohue secured her seventh win, allowing one run on five hits, striking out seven, and conceding three walks.
During the second game, Ferris State broke the scoreless tie in the third inning and built on their lead to 4-0 by the fifth inning. Roosevelt managed just three hits, with a solo home run in the sixth serving as their only score. Ferris State had six hits, featuring two from Kozlowski, who also scored twice. Gillard doubled and drove in a run, while Killion added an RBI.
Pitcher Ella Covill-Marter notched her sixth win, permitting just one earned run and three hits while striking out two in her complete game outing.
Ferris State will continue their home schedule against Parkside on April 6, with games set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Eastern Time at the FSU Softball Field.
