Ferris State University's softball team faced a challenging day as they succumbed to two defeats against Saginaw Valley State University. The matches were held as part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schedule at the Ferris State University Softball Field on Thursday.
The Bulldogs saw a 10-1 loss in the first game, followed by an 8-0 defeat in the second. Throughout both games, Ferris State managed to secure only three hits. Emma Gillard's performance stood out as she hit an RBI triple, bringing in the team's sole run for the afternoon.
Starting pitcher Catherine O'Donohue threw 1.1 innings in the first game, conceding six earned runs. Her performance was followed by Ella Covill-Marter, who pitched for 3.2 innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out one batter. Despite their efforts, SVSU garnered ten hits with just three errors, supported by Macy Irelan's complete game performance that marked her ninth victory this season.
In the second game, Cecelia Bell pitched the entire match for Ferris State, allowing seven earned runs and collecting two strikeouts. The Bulldogs managed only two hits, while SVSU accumulated 11. Jadyn Joseph and Hanna Smith contributed with one hit each.
Notably, Aalana Kimble shone for SVSU with a shutout performance, recording 12 strikeouts and achieving a three-hit game. The Cardinals recorded one error.
Looking ahead, Ferris State is set to host four games at home this coming weekend. They will face Roosevelt in a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday, with games set to begin at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Following that, Wisconsin-Parkside will be the opponents on Sunday, with matches also scheduled for the same times.
