The Ferris State University softball team completed their Florida trip undefeated, finishing with two victories on Friday at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games near Melbourne. The Bulldogs secured a 3-0 win against Ursuline in regional play and later defeated Franklin Pierce 5-2, ending their trip with a perfect 6-0 record.
These wins bring the Bulldogs to an overall record of 11-5 for the season, having won nine of their last eleven games. In the match against Ursuline, Ferris State scored one run in the third inning and added two more in the fifth, maintaining a shutout victory by restricting Ursuline to five hits. Jayden Marlatt and Catherine O'Donohue each contributed two hits for Ferris State, with O'Donohue and Maddie Gkekas hitting doubles. Marlatt also achieved a triple and an RBI, while Alexis Kozlowski drove in another run.
O'Donohue was instrumental in securing the win by pitching three innings without allowing any runs, conceding only three hits and issuing three walks. Cecelia Bell pitched four innings, giving up just two hits with two walks.
In their second game against Franklin Pierce, Ferris State took an early lead of 2-0 and maintained it throughout the game. They added single runs in subsequent innings while Franklin Pierce managed one run each in the second and third innings. The Bulldogs had seven hits compared to Franklin Pierce's five.
O'Donohue again led FSU with two hits during this game. Contributions also came from Kozlowski, Gkekas, and Bailey McCalister who each drove in runs. Ella Covill-Marter recorded her fifth win of the season by allowing only two runs on four hits along with a walk and two strikeouts. Bell closed out with two innings pitched, allowing one hit and striking out one batter.
Ferris State is set to return home to begin GLIAC play on March 22 at Saginaw Valley State, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET).
