Ferris State University's men's and women's tennis teams faced top-ranked opponents in Florida, resulting in a split outcome. The men's team secured a 5-2 victory against Embry-Riddle, ranked tenth nationally, while the women's team was defeated by Embry-Riddle's third-ranked squad.
FSU head coach Mark Doren expressed his satisfaction with the men's performance: "What a great day for the Bulldog men," he said. "It was a huge way to follow up our loss to Florida Southern this week as Embry-Riddle beat Florida Southern just two weeks ago. For us to come out and play the way we did was exciting."
Doren credited the doubles teams for their contributions: "A big shoutout to our doubles," he added. "All three came away with wins and I feel that was a large factor in our energy that carried over into singles play."
In doubles, Erik Kovacs and Kevin Kovacs won 6-3 at the top position. Alessandro Santangelo and Kacper Pasielak achieved a 6-4 win at two doubles, while Mile Leuenberger and Adrian Catahan triumphed 6-4 at three doubles.
During singles matches, Santangelo claimed victory in three sets at two singles. Felipe Iser and Jose Andres Perez Alarcon also won their matches in three sets at four and five singles respectively. Catahan secured a straight-set win at six singles.
The women's team saw Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Katherine Earnest earn a 6-4 win at two doubles; however, Embry-Riddle won all six singles flights in straight sets.
Following these matches, the Bulldog men's record stands at 6-4 overall this year, while the women are now 5-3.
Both teams are scheduled to compete again on Friday against St. Mary's (Texas) in Melbourne, Florida.
