Ferris State University's track and field teams concluded their participation in the 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Championships on Sunday, March 2. The event took place at University Center and was hosted by Saginaw Valley State.
The men's team secured sixth place with a total of 48 points, while the women's team finished seventh, scoring 27.5 points over the two-day meet.
Jaylin Townsend from Ferris State stood out by securing second place in the 60 meters with a time of 6.89 seconds. His preliminary time of 6.84 seconds met the NCAA Division II national provisional qualifying standard. Townsend also placed fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.15 seconds, followed by teammates Charlie Sutton and Bryson Fronta who finished fifth and seventh respectively.
Cooper Sorsen achieved a national qualifying standard by finishing third in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:14.12. He also set a school record as runner-up in the 5,000 meters, clocking in at 14:26.75.
In field events, Devin Dennison took fourth place in the weight throw with a distance of 59-6.75 feet, while Bryce George placed seventh in shot put with a throw of 50-8 feet.
The men's distance medley relay team comprising Gavin Vansolkema, Lucas Vandam, Jared Watchorn, and Zak Kimmel finished fourth overall with a time of 10:19.05.
Additionally, Ferris State's men's team placed sixth in the 4x400-meter relay as Dean Topolski, Jared Watchorn, Luke Berney, and Josh Langeland completed it in 3:25.45.
On the women's side, Allie Delost came fifth in the 60 meters at 7.77 seconds and Abigail Winkle was seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 57.12 seconds. Daisy Englund secured eighth place in the 800 meters at 2:16.75.
Hanna Brock finished fourth in the women's 5,000 meters at 17:31.19 minutes and Whitney Farrell was fifth at 17:38.05 minutes.
Rebecca Marvin took fourth place for Ferris State's women’s team in weight throw reaching a distance of (51-4.5) feet; Alexis Le came seventh in high jump clearing (4-11) feet.
The women's distance medley relay team consisting of Englund along with Oliviah Malloy, Abby Griffith and Ella Kowatch secured sixth position timing at (12:34.87). Meanwhile their counterparts featuring Winkle alongside Englund again together with Kendra Montague plus Malloy ended up finishing seventh within their respective category timing around about four minutes twelve seconds precisely
Overall eight student-athletes from Bulldogs posted school top ten all-time marks besides Sorsen’s school-record-breaking five-kilometer mark during opening day competition held Saturday prior to conclusion upon league championships finalizing everything else thereafter accordingly
