Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team returned from Ohio with a split in their non-conference regional games against Ohio Dominican on Friday.
In the first game, Ferris State secured a 6-1 victory by delivering 10 hits and restricting Ohio Dominican to five. The Bulldogs ended a scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning and added four more across the sixth and seventh innings. Ohio Dominican scored their only run in the seventh inning but couldn't close the gap.
Sophomore first baseman Alexis Kozlowski led Ferris State with three hits, while centerfielder Emma Gillard contributed two hits and drove in three runs. Catcher Paige Antcliff also recorded two hits and two RBIs. Catherine O'Donohue, Ella Covill-Marter, and Rylie Haist combined to allow just one run on five hits with five strikeouts and four walks. O'Donohue pitched five and two-thirds innings of scoreless play, earning the win.
The second game was closely contested, with Ferris State initially leading 3-1 after the first inning and maintaining a 7-5 lead after two innings. However, Ohio Dominican tied the game in the third inning and scored again in the fifth to secure an 8-7 win while holding Ferris State scoreless for their last five at-bats.
Outfielder Maddie Gkekas led Ferris State's offense in game two with two hits and three RBIs, including a triple. Kozlowski doubled and scored twice, while Gillard also contributed two hits and had two RBIs. Shortstop Jayden Marlatt and catcher Emily Killion each added an RBI.
Cecelia Bell pitched for two innings in game two, allowing four earned runs on five hits with two walks. Covill-Marter pitched four innings, conceding one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Ferris State will next travel to Florida for its annual spring break trip to participate in six games at the USSSA Space Coast Spring Games from March 12-14.
