Jadyn Joseph is playing a significant role in the resurgence of Ferris State University's softball program. The Holt native began her career with the Bulldogs by earning the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Freshman of the Year honors. During her freshman year, she achieved a .316 batting average with 50 hits, including three doubles, four triples, and one home run.

Joseph's achievement marked her as only the second Bulldog to receive this honor since Amy Blumenstein in 1992. "It took me by surprise because it had been so long since someone at Ferris has won the award," Joseph said. Despite initially expecting limited playing time due to an experienced player ahead of her at second base, first-year head coach Jake Schumann found a place for Joseph in left field.

In addition to Joseph's success, teammate Alexis Kozlowski followed suit by winning the GLIAC Freshman of the Year award in 2024 after leading the team with a .361 batting average and 61 hits. "It was huge when Alexis followed it up with another GLIAC Freshman of the Year Award," Joseph noted.

The individual accolades have contributed to team success as well. The Bulldogs improved their win totals from previous years, achieving 23 wins during Joseph's rookie season and 25 wins in 2024. "Ferris softball has definitely grown in the last few years," Joseph commented on their progress.

The team's recent preseason games in Honolulu resulted in a balanced record of three wins and three losses. "We're really excited to travel to Hawaii to play some of the best teams in our region," said Joseph about their experience.

Looking forward, Ferris State is predicted to finish third in the upcoming GLIAC season according to preseason polls. With strong performances across various sports within Ferris State Athletics, expectations are high for continued improvement under Coach Schumann's leadership.

"The key to our success will be playing our game," stated Joseph regarding their strategy moving forward. The Bulldogs aim for solid defense and consistent scoring while maintaining a relaxed atmosphere on and off the field.

Their next scheduled games are set for February 20th against Tiffin University at Chicago's Rosemont Dome.
