The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams concluded their opening weekend with a regional split against Drury in Indianapolis on Sunday, February 2. The Bulldog women improved their record to 2-0 by defeating the Panthers 4-3, while the men faced a 4-1 loss.
In the women's match, Drury initially led by winning the doubles round at the top two flights. However, Ferris State's Yara Madi and Aimee Reynoso secured a victory at three doubles with a score of 7-5. In singles play, Ferris State won four out of six matches to clinch the win. Mara, Maria Fernanda Hernandez Ferrer, Reynoso, and Katherine Earnest each achieved straight-set victories in their respective flights. Hernandez Ferrer's match was particularly close, ending with scores of 7-5, 6-1 at four singles. Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Kennedy Dumas were defeated in their singles matches.
For the men's team, Ferris State initially gained an advantage by winning two out of three doubles positions. Alessandro Santangelo and Kacper Pasielak triumphed at two doubles with a score of 7-8 (8-6), while Milo Leuenberger and Adrian Catahan won 6-2 at the third flight. However, Drury came back to win the top four singles flights to secure their victory. Santangelo's match went to three sets at two singles, and Pasielak was heading into a third set when Drury clinched the overall match.
Ferris State's men's team entered the weekend ranked 22nd nationally, while Drury was ranked 23rd.
The Bulldogs are set to host Tiffin on Saturday, February 8th at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center for their regular-season home opener. The women's match will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the men's contest at 2 p.m.
