Ferris State tennis splits season opener against UIndy

Ferris State University's tennis teams commenced their regular-season dual play with a split against the University of Indianapolis on Saturday. The women's team emerged victorious with a 4-1 win, while the men's team, ranked 22nd, was defeated 4-2 by the 12th-ranked UIndy.

In the women's match, Ferris State secured the doubles point with Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer and Kennedy Dumas winning 6-2 at one doubles. Aimee Reynoso and Yara Madi also triumphed with a 6-2 score at three doubles. In singles, Hernandez Ferrer won in three sets at the top flight, and Dumas claimed victory with scores of 6-4, 6-1 at two singles. Madi also won her match in three sets.

For the men’s team, Ferris State initially took the lead by winning the doubles point. Kevin Kovacs and Erik Kovacs achieved a 6-3 victory at number one doubles, while Milo Leuenberger and Adrian Catahan won 6-4 at three doubles. However, UIndy came back to win four out of five completed singles matches. Kevin Kovacs managed a win in three sets at the top spot for Ferris State.

Both teams are set to face Drury (Mo.) on Sunday in Indianapolis to conclude their weekend matches.
