Quintan van Wijk and Ayanna Turrubiates have been recognized as Davenport University's Newcomers of the Year for the 2021-22 season. This decision followed a nomination process where multiple candidates were considered before a final vote by the university's athletic department coaches.

Van Wijk, a freshman from Willemstad, Curacao, achieved the highest single-season winning percentage in the history of the men's tennis program for both singles and doubles matches. He ended his singles season with a 19-4 record, an .826 winning percentage. Partnering with Joel Mast, he secured an 18-5 record in doubles play, boasting a .783 winning percentage. Van Wijk received First Team All-GLIAC honors and was unanimously chosen as GLIAC Freshman of the Year.

Ayanna Turrubiates, who transferred from Indianapolis for her first year at Davenport University, led Division II in goals per game with an average of 4.94. She scored 89 goals during the season, more than any other player in the GLIAC and second only to Brooke Knoll’s 93 goals in 2017 within DU’s program history. The Lansing native also set records for total shots (175), shots per game (9.72), shots on goal (139), and shots on goal per game (7.72). Her performance against McKendree on February 20 included ten scores, tying a school record set by Jessica Lemcke in 2017.
