Ken Clemens, a long-time play-by-play broadcaster for Davenport University's women's basketball team, passed away on November 4 after battling leukemia. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

Paul Lowden, executive director of intercollegiate athletics at Davenport University, expressed deep sorrow over Clemens' death. "All of us within Davenport University Athletics are deeply saddened to learn of Ken Clemens passing," Lowden stated. He highlighted Clemens' dedication and loyalty to the athletic department, noting that he was more than just an announcer but a member of the Panther family.

Clemens began announcing games for the women's basketball team in 2006 and remained committed throughout his tenure, attending both home and away games. Shannon (Callaghan) Rose, a former player from 2003-07, remarked on Clemens' impact beyond basketball. "Ken not only made an impact on the basketball part of his passion and job but on every person's life he came in contact with," she said.

Clemens was married to Dorothy for 58 years and resided in Holland, Michigan. His family includes children Clarke and Denise Clemens, Chad and Rosalyn Clemens, Cameron and Casey Braybrook; grandchildren Sophia (and her husband Cody), Wesley, Joshua, Grant, and Katherine.

Beyond broadcasting for Davenport University, Clemens had a career as an educator and coach at various schools including Flint Southwestern and Grand Rapids Northview High School where he served as assistant principal and varsity boys basketball coach from 1977-97. In retirement, he worked as a sports broadcaster for Michigan Sports Radio.

Shonda Sanders, current head coach of the women's basketball team at Davenport University shared her appreciation for Clemens' work. "Ken was a blessing to our team and fans," she said. Sanders noted how organized and personalized his broadcasts were.

A celebration of life is scheduled for November 10 at Resurrection Life Church in Grandville, Michigan with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or other charities specified by the family.
