Ferris State University is set to honor three individuals at its annual Crimson & Gold Spring Game on April 19 at Top Taggart Field. Former Athletics Director Perk Weisenburger, who retired in 2021, will serve as the game's honorary captain. Weisenburger played a pivotal role in revitalizing the football program by hiring current head coach Tony Annese in 2011.
In addition to Weisenburger, Brett Knight and Andrew Thiede will be recognized as honorary coaches. Knight, previously an Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and head athletic trainer at Ferris State, recently left for another career opportunity. Thiede, currently the Strength & Conditioning Coach, is set to depart in May. Both contributed significantly to the team's success during their tenure.
The event will also celebrate other Ferris State championship teams from this academic year, including basketball, volleyball, and golf squads. Various student-athletes will participate in halftime activities.
The spring game is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m. (ET), with free admission and gates opening an hour earlier. The game will be broadcast live on the Bulldog Sports Network and Sunny 97.3 FM, with Rob Bentley and Sandy Gholston providing commentary.
This event marks an opportunity for fans to see the Bulldogs play under Coach Annese's guidance before the fall season begins. The team aims for a tenth consecutive NCAA Division II Playoffs appearance after achieving national titles in 2021 and 2022.
Over recent years, Ferris State boasts a strong record of success in NCAA Division II Football with nine consecutive playoff appearances and five national semifinal participations since Annese became head coach in 2012.
