For the third consecutive year, Ferris State University's women's golf team has secured a spot in the 2024 NCAA Division II East Regional Championships. The announcement was made on Monday, April 29, by the national committee responsible for selecting postseason qualifiers.
Ferris State is one of four teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) to earn a berth in the East Regional. The championships are scheduled to take place from May 6-8 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, and will be hosted by the University of Indianapolis. Other GLIAC teams joining Ferris State include Grand Valley State, Wayne State, and Davenport.
This marks the Bulldogs' third consecutive appearance in the regional tournament. Two years ago, they finished 11th in their first team trip since 2014 when they placed fourth overall. Last season, Ferris State improved to seventh place at the East Regional held in Springfield, Illinois.
The East Region comprises 15 teams selected from six different conferences and includes six individual competitors from non-advancing schools. Participants will compete over 54 holes with the top six teams and top two individuals not on advancing teams moving on to the national championships set for May 21-25 at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge in Winter Garden, Florida.
Historically, Ferris State has won regional championships twice—in 2003-04 and 2006-07—and achieved runner-up status four times between 2004 and 2009. Last year, they reached the NCAA Tournament as GLIAC's automatic qualifier after winning their first league championship since 2007 during the spring season in Augusta, Michigan. This year, they advanced to the conference semifinals two weeks ago.
