Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's golf team began their title defense at the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships on Friday in Augusta, Michigan. The team recorded a first-round score of 310, placing them third among eight teams at the Stonehedge Golf Club's North Course.
The Bulldogs' score was +22 overall, trailing the day one leader Davenport by ten strokes, who shot a 12-over-par 300. Grand Valley State secured second place with a +22 (304). Ferris State is ahead of Saginaw Valley State by two strokes and Wayne State by three strokes.
The top four teams after Saturday's round will proceed to the head-to-head medal play semifinals in the afternoon. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday in Augusta.
FSU's Kamryn Shannon achieved a score of 76 and is tied for seventh overall. Lizzie Anderson scored 77, tying for 12th place. Dani Staskowski finished with a 78, tying for 17th, while Hallie Crozier scored 79 and tied for 21st. Taylor Musselman recorded an 83 and is tied for 28th overall.
The GLIAC Championships maintain a format established four years ago with each school playing 36 holes of stroke play. The best four out of five scores count towards the team's total score.
After round two, the top four teams will move to head-to-head medal play on Saturday using a bracket format similar to that used in NCAA Championships. The winners from the semifinal rounds will advance to Sunday's finals where the GLIAC Champion will be determined.
Gull Lake View Golf Club & Resort hosts this event as part of its six championship courses, offering golfers unique experiences without repeating any holes over six days.
