Ferris State University senior Chloe Idoni has been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team for the second consecutive year. Idoni, who led her team to its first NCAA Division II National Semifinal appearance, was among 15 players nationwide selected for this honor.
This season, Idoni earned a spot on the second team of the Academic All-America squads. Previously, she was recognized by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) with a Commissioner's Award for excellence. Alongside Northern Michigan's Makaylee Kuhn, Idoni was one of only two players from the GLIAC or Midwest Region to receive this recognition.
Last year, Idoni was named a third-team Academic All-America choice by the same organization. The selection process involves nominations from sports information directors across the country and requires a minimum 3.50 GPA for eligibility. Idoni had already been acknowledged as an academic all-district recipient before her current accolade.
Idoni is now the first Ferris State women's basketball player to receive official Academic All-America honors twice from CSC or its predecessor, CoSIDA. She joins past honorees Vicki Williams (1982), Debbie Killips (2002), Lucy DeMartin (2004), Rachel Folcik (2008), and Rachel McInerney (2018).
In her final season, Idoni played a crucial role in leading Ferris State to an unprecedented NCAA Division II National Semifinals appearance. She averaged 16.7 points and 6 rebounds per game as Ferris State achieved a record-breaking 26-6 overall season and won their first NCAA D2 Midwest Region Championship.
As team captain, Idoni helped secure victories against the nation's top-ranked team three times during the season and completed it with 26 double-figure scoring games, including 13 with at least 20 points. Her performance earned her All-GLIAC First Team honors and inclusion in both the GLIAC All-Defensive Team and as a first-team all-region choice.
The Division II Academic All-America program receives financial support from the NCAA Division II national governance structure to aid CSC in managing awards fulfillment for its 2023-24 program.
