Ferris State women's golf reaches GLIAC semifinals before falling to Grand Valley

The Ferris State University women's golf team reached the semifinals of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) but was unable to defend its league title on April 20 in Augusta, Michigan. The Bulldogs began the day by posting a team score of 312 in the final round of stroke play, securing their place in the semifinals. However, they were defeated by top-seeded Grand Valley State with a 4-1 score in head-to-head medal play.

In the first round of stroke play on Friday, Ferris State scored 310 and concluded the 36-hole portion of the championship in fourth place overall at +46 (622). This event took place at Stonehedge Golf Club's North Course, measuring 5,829 yards with a par 72 layout.

Grand Valley State led stroke play with +28 (604), followed by Davenport at +40 (616) and Saginaw Valley State at +44 (620), ahead of Ferris State. Kamryn Shannon led Ferris State, finishing third individually with a score of 148. She shot a first-round 76 and an even-par 72 in round two.

Lizzie Anderson tied for 11th overall with rounds of 77 each day for a total of 154. Dani Staskowski and Hallie Crozier both tied for 20th with scores of 160. Staskowski recorded rounds of 78 and 82, while Crozier posted scores of 79 and 81. Taylor Musselman finished tied for 30th at 168 with rounds of 83 on Friday and an 85 on Saturday.

The GLIAC Championships followed a format established four years ago, where each school competes in two rounds of stroke play, counting the low four out of five scores towards the team's total score. The top four teams advance to head-to-head medal play using a bracket similar to that used at NCAA Championships.

In their match against Grand Valley State, Shannon won her individual match by seven strokes, but GVSU claimed victory in the other four matchups. Ferris State is currently regionally ranked and awaits the NCAA Tournament selection announcement later this month.
