Ferris State narrowly defeated by Grand Valley in GLIAC soccer matchup

The Ferris State University women's soccer team faced a narrow defeat against Grand Valley State University, losing 2-1 in their final home game of the regular season on Sunday. The match, held in Big Rapids, Michigan, was part of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) competition.

Ferris State, with a record of 5-6-4, had previously lost to Grand Valley State earlier in the season by the same scoreline. Sunday's game saw goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei start for Ferris State, making two saves during her time on the field. However, Grand Valley State managed to score twice in the first half. Ryann Fetty opened the scoring at 4:25 with her first goal of the year. Avery Lockwood added another goal at 25:27, marking her second of the season and giving GVSU a 2-0 lead by halftime.

In the second half, Lauren Kubacki took over as goalkeeper for Ferris State and successfully prevented any further goals from GVSU while making three saves. The Bulldogs' only goal came from freshman Katherine Welch at 67:27, assisted by Lindsay Cole's corner kick pass. This marked Welch's seventh goal of the year and extended her point streak to four games.

Despite several late attempts to equalize, Ferris State could not break through Grand Valley's defense or get past goalkeeper Kendall Robertson's crucial saves. The match concluded with Ferris State having four shots on goal compared to GVSU's seven.

Both teams executed three corner kicks each during the game. Following this match, Ferris State will conclude their regular season with three away games starting against Michigan Tech on Friday.
