Ferris State softball wins GLIAC opener against Wayne State

The Ferris State University softball team secured a decisive 10-3 victory against Wayne State in the opening round of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. The game took place on Thursday at the Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont, Illinois.

Ferris State broke a scoreless tie with an eight-run surge in the bottom of the third inning. Wayne State managed to score three runs in the top of the fourth, but Ferris State responded with two more runs and maintained their lead for the remainder of the game.

With this win, Ferris State advances to face Grand Valley State on Friday at 12 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs recorded ten hits during their triumph, including contributions from shortstop Emma Gillard and left fielder Maddie Gkekas, who each had two hits. Second baseman Jadyn Joseph drove in three runs, while Gkekas added two RBIs.

Designated player Abby Meyer hit a triple, and doubles were recorded by Joseph, catcher Emily Killion, and Gkekas. The Bulldogs also stole five bases during the game. Additional RBIs came from outfielder Ella McDonald, first baseman Alexis Kozlowski, and Meyer.

Senior pitcher Aryn Gallacher pitched all seven innings for Ferris State, allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Following this victory, Ferris State's overall record stands at 25-25 for the season. The winner of Friday's game between Ferris State and Grand Valley will move forward to Saturday's play; meanwhile, the losing team will compete in an elimination game later on Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
