Ferris State University's softball team concluded the opening day of their final regular-season weekend with a split against Wayne State in Detroit. On Friday, April 26, the Bulldogs secured a 7-4 victory in the first game but fell 9-1 in five innings during the second.

In the initial matchup, senior pitcher Aryn Gallacher led Ferris State to victory by pitching all seven innings. She struck out seven batters and allowed three earned runs on seven hits with two walks. The Bulldogs gained an early advantage by scoring once in both the first and second innings. Despite Wayne State's brief lead at 3-2 going into the fourth inning, Ferris State responded with two runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to clinch the win.

Brooklyn Verbeek, playing third base for Ferris State, contributed significantly with two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Second baseman Jadyn Joseph drove in two runs as well. Overall, seven different players from Ferris State recorded hits and six had at least one RBI.

Wayne State rebounded strongly in game two by delivering 11 hits while restricting Ferris State to just three. They amassed five runs in the second inning and added another four across subsequent innings for a decisive five-inning win.

The Bulldogs' three hits were credited to outfielders Ella McDonald, Maddie Gkekas, and Keelin Wheaton. Joseph also drew three walks while designated player Emily Killion provided an RBI for their only run.

Three pitchers took turns on behalf of Ferris State: Ashley Webb started before Rylie Haist and Sophie Wisniski stepped in relief roles. Together they combined for four walks and one strikeout.

Ferris State is set to conclude their regular season on Saturday at Saginaw Valley State with games scheduled at 1 p.m. ET and approximately 3 p.m. ET due to weather considerations. The Bulldogs currently stand at a record of 24-23 overall with a GLIAC record of 12-10 as they approach their last pair of games where top teams remain closely contested within two games of each other.
