Ferris State track teams shine at SVSU Doug Hansen Open

Ferris State University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams began their season at the Doug Hansen Open, held at Saginaw Valley State University in University Center. The event on Friday saw notable performances from both squads.

Ignatius Jackson claimed victory in the men's 60 meters with a time of 6.99 seconds, while Bryson Fronta finished fifth at 7.13 seconds and secured third place in the 200 meters with a time of 22.82 seconds. Blaine Rogers took third place in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.84 seconds.

Cooper Sorsen achieved second place in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:41.23, and Dean Topolski finished fifth in the 400 meters at 51.29 seconds. Levi Tuinstra also excelled by securing second place in the high jump with a height of 5-10.

In field events, Devin Dennison placed third in the weight throw (47-7), and Ben Dousuah earned fourth place in the shot put (44-0.50).

On the women's side, Danae Feldpausch won the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.29, closely followed by Ella Kowatch as runner-up at 2:25.02 and Kayla Muth placing fourth at 2:31.36. Claudia Wilkinson triumphed in the high jump with a mark of 5-4.25.

Ana Fortier was runner-up in the women's 200 meters (27.38), while Lacey Zimmerman came fourth (27.73). Abigail Winkle secured second place in the 400 meters (58.01), and Nyah Tyron finished fifth (1:01.61).

Hanna Brock achieved second place in the women's 3,000 meters (10:51.17) and sixth place in the mile run (5:13.92). Becci Castillo was third in the same race (10:52.62), followed by Whitney Farrell and Melanea Strauss taking fourth and fifth places respectively.

Rebecca Marvin stood out by winning the weight throw event with a distance of 46-5.25; she also claimed third place in shot put (36-4.75). Eva Watkins took fifth position in weight throw with a distance of 41-7.

Both Ferris State relay teams performed strongly, finishing second overall—the men's team recorded a time of 3:33.60, while the women's team completed their race in 4:06.17.

Ferris State is scheduled to compete next on January 26th at Grand Valley State's Bill Clinger Classic held in Allendale.
