Ferris State competes on day one at GLIAC Indoor Championships

Ferris State University's men's and women's indoor track and field teams began their participation in the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 24, in University Center. The event is hosted by Saginaw Valley State.

The men's team scored 11 points, placing them fifth overall after the first day of competition. On the women's side, Ferris State accumulated nine points, ranking eighth overall.

Devin Dennison achieved a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 16.11 meters for the men's team. In the men's 5,000 meters, Cooper Sorsen secured sixth place with a time of 14:42.41.

Chase Carter qualified for Sunday's championship finals by recording the fourth-fastest time in both the 60 meters (6.91 seconds) and the 200 meters (21.97 seconds). Blaine Rogers advanced to the finals in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a preliminary round time of 8.65 seconds, which was seventh-best. Dean Topolski finished ninth in the men's 400 meters with a time of 50.73 seconds.

For the women's team, Rebecca Marvin placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.09 meters. Hanna Brock finished fifth in the women's 5,000 meters with a time of 17:38.08.

Both Ferris State's men’s and women’s teams finished sixth in their respective distance medley relay races; the women clocked a time of 12:39.23 while the men completed theirs in 10:33.78.

The final day of competition will be held on Sunday, February 25, at University Center.
