The Ferris State University men's and women's cross country teams experienced notable success on Friday, September 20, at the Lansing Invitational.
The women's team secured first place in the 12-team field with a total of 83 points. They finished seven points ahead of runner-up Grand Rapids Community College, while Alma College took third place. All five of Ferris State's top scoring runners were among the top 31 overall finishers.
Freshman Tessa Wohlschlegel led the women's team with an eighth-place finish, completing the 5K course in 20:02.0. Abigail Winkle followed in 13th place (20:33.2), Taylor Huntoon in 14th (20:37.9), Abby Griffith in 30th (21:24.1), and junior Kaitlyn Thomas rounded out the top five for FSU in 35th place (21:52.9). The event featured more than 120 participants.
In the men's competition, Ferris State finished fourth overall with a total of 95 points. Lansing Community College won the men's team championship with 26 points, followed by Harper College with 88 points and Lawrence Tech with 90 points. Thirteen schools participated in the men's race.
Sophomore Ben Scott led Ferris State's men’s team with a 14th-place finish in the 8K race, clocking a time of 27:28.1. He was closely followed by Aaron Bowerman in 15th place (27:30.0), David Harris in 27th (28:00.5), Mick Robinson in 30th (28:14.3), and Jose Flores in 31st (28:16.6).
The Bulldogs will next compete at the Live In The Lou Classic scheduled for October 5 in Louisville, Kentucky.
