Davenport University announces senior athletes & newcomers of year awards

Noah Evers of the men's track and field team and Erin Dorn of the women's cross country and track & field teams have been named the Davenport University Senior Athletes of the Year for the 2023-24 season. Multiple nominees were identified for both men and women before being voted on by the athletic department's head coaches and administrative staff.

Evers, a native of Martin, Mich., and a graduate of Plainwell High School, concluded a successful career with numerous accomplishments this past year. He was named College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-American and USTFCCCA Academic All-American. Additionally, he was a First Team All-American in shot put for both indoor and outdoor seasons. Evers finished third during the NCAA DII Indoor Championships and second during the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships. He was also the GLIAC Indoor Champion in shot put, setting a school record at 19.16 meters during the indoor season. Evers won the GLIAC Commissioner's Award during spring season, awarded to top student-athletes in the conference. He was runner-up in shot put and discus at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships, setting another school record in discus (55.88 meters).

Dorn, a native of Manistee, Mich., and a graduate of Manistee High School, excelled academically as well as athletically. She received USTFCCCA Academic All-American honors and was selected to College Sports Communicators Academic All-District list. Dorn was GLIAC Indoor Champion in 800 meters, setting a school record in that event. She qualified nationally in 800 meters placing 13th at NCAA DII Indoor Championships. Dorn was runner-up in 800 meters at GLIAC Outdoor Championships while setting school records in 800 meters, 1,500 meters, and 4x400 relay during outdoor season.

The Newcomer of the Year Award went to Nik Shilling from cross country and track & field teams along with Hannah Robinson from women's golf team.

Shilling, hailing from Ortonville, Mich., had an impressive freshman year for Panthers. He finished fourth in 800 meters during GLIAC Indoor Championships while setting school records in both 800 meters (1:51.08) and mile (4:16.45) during indoor season. Named to The Stride Report Newcomer of Year list for his performance indoors and outdoors, Shilling also set another school record (1:48.89) during outdoor season finishing fourth again at GLIAC Outdoor Championships.

Robinson from Charlotte Mich., played crucial role helping women's golf team advance to NCAA DII National Championships first time ever for Davenport University history being named WGCA All-American Scholar playing every tournament regular/postseason tying sixth place at GLIAC Championships averaging score (79).9 over thirty-one rounds seventh best season average.
