COVID-19 protocols caused the cancellation of a Dec. 27 game between the Grand Rapids Griffins and the Cleveland Monsters.
The American Hockey League revealed that the game has been rescheduled for April 30 at 7 p.m. at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, according to a press release from the Griffins.
The Grand Rapids Griffins, an affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, are 2-1 in games played against the Monsters this season. The Griffins earned a 4-1 win in Cleveland on Dec. 6 but lost 1-2 to the Monsters at home in overtime on Jan. 8. At their last meeting on Jan. 18 in Cleveland, the Griffins came away with a 5-3 victory.
The rescheduled game is now set to be the final game of the regular season.
While the current players are battling on ice, many of the team's former players are competing in the Olympics. A record 15 former Griffins are taking part in the 2022 Winter Olympic Games being held in Beijing, China.
The group includes four Calder Cup champions and all three goalies from the Griffins’ 2018-19 squad, which earned the franchise’s seventh consecutive playoff berth. Eight of the 12 participating countries’ rosters or coaching staffs included a former Griffins player, and 17 of the 18 preliminary round games involved at least one of these alumni.
