The Grand Rapids Griffins missed out on a game-tying goal as time was winding down and dropped a 1-0 game to the visiting Milwaukee Admirals on Wednesday.
The Griffins had a couple of good scoring opportunities, but Milwaukee goalie Connor Ingram was too much in the net that day.
The first good scoring chance came about three and a half minutes into the game. Erik Bradford stole the puck, skated to other side of the ice by himself and slapped one toward the net. But Ingram used his left pad to keep the puck from slipping past him.
Later that period, penalties came back to haunt the Griffins, as the Admirals scored on a power play as Matt Donovan took a shot from the blue line that found its way past several players and Victor Brattstrom's block. That gave Milwaukee a lead they'd never relinquish.
In the second period, the Griffins stifled the Admirals' offense, but they failed to capitalize on their own power play chances, so stayed off the scoreboard.
With time ticking away, the Griffins had another good scoring opportunity when Dominik Shine tried to get one in from the low slot. Again, Ingram was too much.
The Griffins have dropped four in a row at Van Andel Arena.
Grand Rapids basically owned Milwaukee earlier in the season, going 5-1-1-0 in the first seven contests before dropping the last two.
The teams face off again Saturday to close out January play.
