CITY OF GRAND RAPIDS: Offices Closed, Refuse And Recycling Schedules Delayed During Holidays

Closeoffice

City of Grand Rapids issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.

Most City of Grand Rapids offices are closed Dec. 24 and Dec. 25 for the Christmas holiday. They also are closed Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. City offices are open for business Dec. 26, 27, 30 and 31.

All Grand Rapids Public Library branches are closed Dec. 24, 25 and 29 and Jan. 1. They close at 6 p.m. Dec. 31.

The City’s refuse and recycling curbside collections take place as scheduled Dec. 23, 24, 30 and 31. There are no pickups on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and service is delayed the rest of those weeks. That means Wednesday’s collections take place Thursday and so forth through Saturday both weeks.

Monroe Avenue NE between Michigan and Lyon closes at 9 a.m. Dec. 31 for GR Ball Drop preparations. Drivers who want to park in the Government Center Ramp at City Hall after 9 a.m. need to use the Ottawa Avenue entrance. For those who have mobility challenges and for drivers of vehicles that cannot enter the Ottawa entrance due to height clearance issues, event staff plan to direct them to the ramp’s south entrance off Monroe.

The City’s Customer Service Center on the Monroe level of City Hall is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 31. Visitors who leave City Hall between 4 and 5:30 p.m. that day need to use the Monroe Avenue exit. After 5:30, all visitors need to exit City Hall on the Calder Plaza level to Ottawa Avenue.
