Grand Rapids Public Schools issued the following announcement on Nov. 21.
On November 19, 2019 the Grand Rapids Board of Education posted the application and selection criteria for its superintendent search. The board voted on April 13, 2019 to restart its nationwide superintendent search. The goal of this search is to hire a superintendent to replace Teresa Weatherall Neal who retired on June 30, 2019. Dr. Ron Gorman is currently serving as the Interim Superintendent during the search process until June 30, 2020.
The Board hired Ray and Associates as the consulting firm to assist with the search at the September 17 work session. At the October 22 work session, the Board met with Ray and Associates to determine the search timeline. The selection criteria that will be used for the new superintendent was gathered by the Kent Intermediate School District (Kent ISD) through a series of community meetings and online surveys in fall 2018. The posting can be found here and will remain open until January 5, 2020.
At a work session planned for January 23, 2020, Ray and Associates will provide the Board with interview questions, procedures, and top candidates for the first-round interview. First-round interviews will take place on Saturday, February 8, 2020 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Grand Rapids Public Schools Rev. Lyman S. Parks, Jr. Administration Building. The Board will then meet on February 10 to determine which candidates will receive a second-round interview during a work session at 4:30 p.m. Finalists will visit the district on Monday, February 17 with second-round interviews taking place beginning at 6:00 p.m. If the board does not have a decision made the evening of February 17, then an alternate meeting date will be determined and announced to the public.
