Paul Hudson, who is challenging Rep. Hillary Scholten for Michigan's 3rd Congressional District, has criticized Rep. Scholten's recent vote against H.Res. 1065 as a "failure." The resolution, put forth by Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, asserts that the Biden administration possesses the executive authority to halt illegal immigration and secure the border but chooses not to exercise it.

"Unfortunately, this is par for the course for Rep. Scholten since she took office," said Hudson, GOP Candidate for U.S. House in Michigan (District 3). "We get plenty of rhetoric, photo ops, and finger-pointing, but when it comes to actual votes, Rep. Scholten consistently opposes meaningful action to secure the border."

In a press release from Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz, the author of H.Res. 1065, it was confirmed that the House passed the resolution. "The current state of our nation's border security is unsustainable," De La Cruz stated. "The policies put forth by the Biden administration have resulted in the worst border security crisis in our nation's history, endangering our communities and straining our resources." H.Res. 1065 criticizes the Biden administration's immigration strategy, highlighting issues such as the removal of effective border security measures, releasing illegal immigrants into American communities, and neglecting to utilize important authorities like existing executive power to manage the crisis.

Hudson issued a statement on Rep. Scholten’s stance: "Rep. Scholten’s failure to support a commonsense resolution that simply ‘urges the Biden Administration to immediately’ use its existing executive authority to do things like ‘detain inadmissible aliens,’ ‘enter into asylum cooperative agreements,’ and ‘end abuses of parole authority’ shows she is not serious about solving this crisis."

As reported by Grand Rapids Reporter, Hudson previously asserted that Scholten's votes against border security measures have directly affected Michiganders: "Her actions, inaction, and silence have contributed to the ongoing catastrophe, with nearly 10 million illegal crossings causing a national crisis." He claimed that both Scholten and the Biden administration are responsible for bringing this crisis "on our front doorstep." Hudson accused Scholten of being ineffective on immigration reform despite her background at the Michigan Immigration Rights Center, highlighting her voting record and alleged support for an open-border policy.

Fox 2 Detroit reported that the Office of Global Michigan is requesting local Michiganders to accommodate migrants for 90 days. "The Office of Global Michigan’s goal is to make Michigan the home for opportunity for our immigrant, refugee and ethnic communities," said Poppy Hernandez, Michigan’s chief equity and inclusion officer and director of the Office of Global Michigan.

According to Hudson's campaign website, he is a native of West Michigan with degrees from Cornell University and Georgetown Law. He currently serves as a senior partner at Miller Canfield and has been nominated in the past to serve on the Michigan Supreme Court.
