Kent ISD issued the following announcement on Oct 25.
Kent ISD educator Caitlin Doan has received the Excellence in Education Award from Michigan State Lottery. Doan, a teacher at Lincoln Developmental Center, was nominated by the parent of one of her students who applauded her for her “life changing” instruction and support. Lincoln Developmental Center serves students from Kindergarten to age 26 with complex needs in the areas of severe multiple impairment, cognitive impairment and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
“We’re so proud of Caitlin’s achievement and her services to our students, their parents and school community,” said Kent ISD superintendent Ron Koehler. “To receive such an award from Michigan Lottery and recognition from a student’s parent is a great honor for Caitlin and our entire school community as they strive for excellence in education every day.”
Doan says it’s a team effort to help students succeed at Lincoln Developmental Center. “It’s a celebration,” said Doan, “not only for me but for the families, for the students, for all the support staff involved, all of our therapists. We all work together so hard to help these kids.”
As an Excellence in Education Award recipient, Doan received a check for $1,500 and a $500 grant for her classroom at Lincoln Developmental Center. Principal Steve Kadau commended Doan for empowering students to reach their maximum potential. “Teachers like Caitlin raise the bar for her fellow educators but also for our students, giving them the encouragement, tools and support they need to be their very best. We’re so proud to have her as an important part of our team and school community!"
Every week during the school year, Michigan Lottery selects one outstanding educator to receive the Excellence in Education award. See Caitlin Doan’s interview here:
