City of Rockford issued the following announcement on July 13.
The City of Rockford has a water main valve turning crew working in town as a part of our water system maintenance program. They will be traveling and working through all places that receive Rockford’s water for the next 2 to 3 weeks.
Valve turning is a controlled procedure that is vital to the general maintenance of the City’s water distribution system. It ensures adequate isolation in emergency situations such as water main breaks.
During valve turning operations in your neighborhood, some short-term discoloration of water, though uncommon, is possible. If residence notice discolored water, allow your cold water to run for a few minutes at full velocity to allow the water to clear. The water will remain safe to use and consume as normal for the duration of the valve turning program.
