CITY OF EAST GRAND RAPIDS: Submitting Your Absentee Ballot

Electionvote

City of East Grand Rapids issued the following announcement on Sept. 27.

Our City Clerk and election workers are dedicated to ensuring your voice is counted in every election. The City of East Grand Rapids provides the following three options for residents choosing to exercise their right to vote via absentee ballot:

  1. Mailing your ballot to City Hall at 750 Lakeside Drive SE, East Grand Rapids, MI 49506.

To ensure your ballot arrives at City Hall before Election Day, please mail it by Friday, Oct 23. After this date, we recommend you submit your ballot via either of the remaining two options.

  2. Personally handing your ballot to our election/front desk staff at City Hall during business hours: Monday- Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  3.  Utilizing the City’s official dropbox in the Community Center vestibule. This dropbox is used for all City services, including absentee ballots, water and tax bills.

This secure drop box is available 24 hours a day and is monitored by video surveillance to ensure the integrity of the voting process and protect the ballots that are submitted. Additionally, it is ADA accessible.

Centrally and conveniently located in the City, the dropbox is in an approximate one-mile radius from all EGR homes. The front door of the Community Center is always open and the dropbox is located on the wall to the right a few steps inside the door.

These three options are the safest, most reliable means of submitting an absentee ballot in EGR.

During business hours, residents can call 616.949.2110 for assistance in dropping off their ballot.

Once received at City Hall, absentee ballots are kept sealed in their envelopes in a locked room until election day when they are opened by a team of election workers and fed into a tabulator to be counted.

As a reminder, if you would like to register to vote online or at the Secretary of State, you must do so by Oct. 19. Once this deadline has passed, you will need to register at City Hall.

For additional information on voting in EGR, please visit eastgr.org/elections or give us a call at 616.949.2110.
