CITY OF GRAND RAPIDS: Two Labor Relations Positions Available

City of Grand Rapids issued the following announcement on July 18.

We have two labor relations positions available – one in our Office of Oversight and Public Accountability - Grand Rapids (OPA) and one in our Labor Relations Office.

The newly created OPA position will serve as a liaison between OPA and our police and fire departments. This includes monitoring of investigations and complaint processes within the departments, reviewing and monitoring critical incidents and performing evaluation of cases. This person also will complete administrative investigations of employee misconduct within the police and fire departments, among other duties.

The Labor Relations position investigates grievances and complaints and coordinates their resolution, provides advice and clarification to city management regarding labor contracts, city policies and rules and regulations, attends and conducts hearings, negotiations and arbitration, and supervises the work of assigned personnel, among other duties.

The minimum requirements for both are:

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or a related field

• At least 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in labor relations and collective bargaining

• Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities
