ICE officers took multiple convicted noncitizens into custody across the country, including Nava Kumar Tupili from India, who was convicted in Wayland, Michigan, for accosting children for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime.
According to the Department of Homeland Security press release, ICE arrested multiple individuals over the weekend convicted of serious offenses, including sexual assault of a child and human trafficking for sexual servitude. The operation included Nava Kumar Tupili, an India national convicted for accosting children for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime in Wayland, Michigan, as well as other individuals from Mexico, Ghana, Nigeria, and other countries.
ICE arrested more than 4,300 people in Michigan between January 2025 and March 2026, as reported by WZZM13. The report said cooperation between local jurisdictions and federal officers has allowed the transfer of convicted individuals from county jails directly to ICE custody.
Nationwide, nearly 70% of noncitizens arrested by ICE have criminal convictions or pending criminal charges in the United States, according to DHS. In early 2026, the agency arrested hundreds of individuals with child sex offense convictions across multiple field offices.
ICE was created in 2003 through a merger of investigative and interior enforcement elements from predecessor agencies. The agency maintains more than 20,000 law enforcement and support personnel operating in offices throughout the United States and around the world, according to their website.
