As temperatures dip, you can practice #WinterCrimePrevention by always keeping your vehicle locked and keeping shopping bags, purses and other items out of site. Though it may be tempting to let your car heat up on a frigid January morning, an unattended and unlocked vehicle is an easy target for theft. The national trend involving the theft of KIA and Hyundai vehicles with a standard key ignition is still ongoing. Owners of these vehicles are encouraged to take extra precautions, including parking in well-lit areas and areas with cameras and utilizing a car alarm system. A locking mechanism, such as column collars, steering wheel locks or brake locks can also help.

Please report suspicious activity and crimes while they are happening by calling 911.  You can also submit an anonymous tip through Silent Observer at 616.774.2345 or SilentObserver.org.
