Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and Grand Rapids commissioners are asking residents to volunteer to join the city's 42 boards and commissions.
After applying, residents will be assigned to boards and commissions by the city's Committee of Appointments to ensure openings are filled by qualified applicants and to properly represent different areas within the community, the city of Grand Rapids reported in a release on its website.
"We are looking for individuals who love this city, have a passion for community service and who want to get more involved in City government," Bliss said in the release. "People who serve on our boards and commissions support City operations, review City initiatives, make development recommendations, protect our water, improve our neighborhoods and help shape the future of Grand Rapids."
Residents are encouraged to apply regardless of whether they have experience working in city government, the city of Grand Rapids reported. Many positions are currently open, and applicants should select whichever positions interest them most.
"Grand Rapids would not be able to provide the high level of service it does without those who give their valuable time and diverse talents to serving on our boards and commissions," Milinda Ysasi, second ward commissioner and Committee of Appointments chair, said in the release. "Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and improve local government by lending your voice and making a difference."
Residents can visit grandrapidsmi.gov/getinvolved to apply or call the city clerk's office at 616-456-3010 for support, the city of Grand Rapids reported.
