Michigan is Seeking for Full-Time Public Safety Officer

City of Rockford issued the following announcement on Nov 15.

The City of Rockford, Michigan is seeking qualified candidates for the two open positions of Full-Time Public Safety Officer.  Resumes and cover letters must be received prior to December 3, 2021 at 5:00 PM.  Interviews are expected to occur soon after the closing date.  

Duties include:

• Patrolling City streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to preserve the peace and enforce the law.

• Control vehicular traffic.

• Prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving misdemeanors, felonies and other law violations and fire suppression activities.

• Work on rotating shifts performing security patrols, traffic control, investigation and first aid at accidents, detection, investigation, and arrest of persons involved in crimes or misconduct.

• Participates in investigating criminal law violations occurring within the City limits, obtaining evidence and compiling information regarding these crimes, preparing cases for filing of charges, testifying in court, and related activities.

• Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and City laws and ordinances.

Requirements:

• Associates degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field with a bachelor's degree preferred.

• Must be licensed, licensable as a police officer by MCOLES, or currently attending an MCOLES certified training academy.

• Must be able to complete Medical First Responder training.

• Must be a U.S. citizen and be 21 years or older at the time of employment.

• Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State driver's license.

• No felony convictions and/or disqualifying criminal histories.

• Must be able to read and write the English language.

• Must be of good moral character.

• Must be able to complete Fire Fighter 1 & 2 training.

• Ability to successfully complete all phases of the selection process.

• Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.

• Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition.

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

• Ability to learn the City's geography.
