Ron Weiser won in the Michigan Republican chair election over incumbent Laura Cox by a landslide on Saturday — taking on 66% of the vote

Weiser, a University of Michigan Board of Regent member, will take the position with Meshawn Maddock as his co-chair.

Cox, in a last-ditch effort two days before the election, sent an email to delegates filled with accusations against Weiser, notable alleging that he paid Stan Grot $200,000 to drop out of the Secretary of State primary race in 2018.

“I am deeply saddened by Laura Cox's baseless allegations against Ron Weiser who is a kind, honest man,” Keith Den Hollander said after Cox's Thursday email. “Ron has dedicated so much of his time and resources in support of this Party. This is the sort of attacks we usually see coming from the left. So unfortunate to see from our own.”

Weiser said he would focus on rebuilding the party over the next two years.

"Meshawn and I are honored and excited to lead the party over the next two critical years,” Weiser said in a statement released by the Michigan GOP. “The skirmishes of yesterday are over. Our focus now rests on the great challenges before us: Rebuilding our party. Defeating Whitmer, Nessel, Benson and other far-left radicals.”

Cox said in a tweet that she would continue to fight for conservative values.

“It has been an honor to serve as Michigan GOP Chairman these last two years. While I'm no longer leading the party, I will never stop fighting for our conservative principles and what we stand for,” Cox said in a statement released on Twitter.
