Rep. Lynn Afendoulis (R-Grand Rapids Township) wrote an open letter to publicly support life and speak out against abortion on the Michigan House Republicans website.

She shared her own story of adopting a son, “thanks to a woman who chose to give him life,” she said, according to Michigan House Republicans. She recalled sponsoring a bill, along with Rep. Pam Hornberger (R-Chesterfield Township), to put an end to "dismemberment abortion."

She added that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has already vowed to veto this legislation because she says it’s a women’s health care issue.

“That argument is tiresome and ludicrous -- abortion is the opposite of health care,” she said on the Michigan House Republicans website. “The children who grow in our wombs are living, feeding, feeling humans on one end of the life spectrum who deserves as much care, love and attention as the elderly on the other end, or as the infirmed and dying throughout.”

She also called out those who defend abortion rights for attempting to normalize the medical procedure. She referenced ShoutYourAbortion.com, where the homepage reads, “Abortion is normal. Our stories are ours to tell. This is not a debate." Afendoulis blatantly disagreed, saying it actually is a debate, and further, a fight for the value of life.

“When leaders don’t see that -- when they kowtow to political pressure or to the easy answer that makes them popular instead of right, they lose their humanity, set a horrendous example for young women and deny life for those who might have been a governor or doctor or a great parent,” she said on the Michigan House Republicans website.

Afendoulis said "life is life," including George Floyd’s, whose death caused nationwide civil unrest after he died at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers in May.
