CITY OF GREENVILLE: Risks Of The Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE)

Mosquitoeee

City of Greenville issued the following announcement on Sep. 24.

We are keeping a close eye on the risks of the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in the Montcalm area. Per recommendation from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, we do not feel it is necessary to cancel or reschedule any of our outdoor activities at this time. We will continue to monitor the situation and will make decisions accordingly. MDHHS recommends taking the following precautions when participating in outdoor activities:

> Apply insect repellents that contain the active ingredient DEET, or other U.S. Environmental Protection

Agency (EPA)-approved product to exposed skin or clothing, and always follow the manufacturer’s

directions for use.

> Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors.

> Apply insect repellent to clothing to help

prevent bites. Permethrin is a particularly effective repellant for clothing and equipment.
