Kent County Sheriff’s Office investigates shots fired incident in Gaines Township

Deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office are investigating reports of gunfire at an apartment complex in Gaines Township. The incident occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. on January 7, 2026, near the intersection of Eastern Avenue SE and 60th Street SE.

According to authorities, deputies responded to calls about a disturbance involving a large group in the parking lot, where witnesses reported hearing fighting followed by gunshots. When deputies arrived, those involved had already left the scene. Officers found spent shell casings and spoke with several witnesses but have not identified any victims at this time.

The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement continues to gather information about the circumstances surrounding the event.
