The Kent County Sheriff’s Office announced on April 17 that William Palmer, a 56-year-old man who went missing from his care facility near Rockford, has been found safe in the City of Kentwood.
Palmer’s disappearance was a concern because he has dementia and was last seen on foot in the area of Northland Drive and 13 Mile Road around 7:30 a.m. that day. The sheriff’s office provided his description, stating he is about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs approximately 150 pounds, and was last seen wearing yellow and blue shorts and shirt.
Authorities had urged anyone who saw Palmer to call emergency services so he could be returned to the care facility where he receives necessary support. The search involved deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office working quickly after receiving reports of his disappearance.
The case highlights ongoing challenges faced by families and caregivers when individuals with dementia go missing. Prompt public communication played an important role in ensuring Palmer’s safe return.
