Ferris State University men’s tennis player Jan Koupil has been recognized as a College Sports Communicators Academic All-America First Team selection for the second year in a row. Koupil, hailing from Stockholm, Sweden, played a pivotal role in leading the Bulldogs to victory in both the 2024 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Regular Season and Tournament Championships.
Koupil was one of six Division II athletes chosen for the All-America First Team. The selections also included eight players on the second team and four on the third team. During this spring season, Koupil achieved first-team All-GLIAC honors with an overall doubles record of 17-12 and a singles record of 16-7 while playing at or near the top of Ferris State University’s lineup.
In doubles play, he ranked among the top 12 nationally and competed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup National Small College Championships last fall. This year, he earned first-team all-conference honors in doubles and second-team recognition in singles. Additionally, he was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team for his fourth consecutive year.
Nominations for this accolade were submitted by sports information directors nationwide. To qualify for Academic All-America consideration, student-athletes must maintain a minimum overall grade point average of 3.50. Before receiving Academic All-America honors, Koupil was recognized as an academic all-district recipient.
This season marked Ferris State’s 27th appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament and their ninth consecutive participation. The Bulldogs secured the GLIAC Regular-Season Championship with an undefeated 6-0 league record before defeating Wayne State 4-3 in the conference tournament championship—a victory sealed by Koupil’s decisive three-set win at four singles.
