Hillary Scholten highlights Social Security, tourism industry growth, and calls for immigration reform

Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed issues ranging from Social Security and local disaster aid to Michigan’s tourism economy through a series of posts on social media.

On August 27, 2025, Scholten expressed appreciation for Social Security workers: “For over 90 years, Social Security has been delivering on the promise of a supported retirement. Local offices like our Knapp St. location help make it happen, despite monumental challenges. Grateful for these workers and what they do day in and day out for our community.”

The following day, she highlighted the economic impact of tourism in Michigan: “Michigan is home to a tourism industry worth $55 billion and welcomed 131 million visitors last year alone. When hotels thrive, our economy thrives.

I hosted a roundtable with leaders from the American Hotel and Lodging Association and Rep. Glanville to discuss the status of” (August 28, 2025).

Later that same day, Scholten commented on the role of disaster aid groups and called for legislative action on immigration reform: “Disaster aid groups are not ICE. Nor should they be. Their main focus is on helping people after a disaster. There’s a simple fix here — Congress needs to do its job and pass comprehensive immigration reform NOW.” (August 28, 2025).

Hillary Scholten has served as U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 3rd District since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023. Born in Grand Rapids in 1982, Scholten holds degrees from Gordon College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore. She currently resides in Grand Rapids.
