Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently used her social media platform to highlight the contributions of local first responders and reflect on community safety.
On March 19, 2026, Scholten recognized Muskegon police officers for their recent honor: “Three Muskegon officers were just named Michigan’s Peace Officers of the Year and it couldn’t be more deserved. Their bravery and quick action made a real difference for our community. West Michigan is grateful for their service.”
Later that day, she expressed appreciation for fire department leaders: “We love our firefighters. Grateful to meet with Michigan fire chiefs who put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe.” The post underscored her support for those serving in emergency response roles.
In a subsequent message posted on March 19, Scholten referenced an earlier visit to Temple Israel: “A week later, and I am still thinking of Temple Israel. We have to keep showing up, turning down the temperature, and protecting our communities.”
Hillary Scholten has served as the U.S. Representative for Michigan’s 3rd District since 2023, succeeding Peter Meijer in that role (https://www.house.gov/representative/hillary-scholten). Born in Grand Rapids in 1982, Scholten continues to reside there while representing her constituents at the federal level. She holds a BA from Gordon College (2004) and earned her JD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2011.
