Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, representing Michigan’s 3rd district since 2023, has been actively engaging with her community on various pressing issues. Scholten, born in Grand Rapids and currently residing there, continues to focus on local economic development and housing initiatives as part of her congressional responsibilities.

On May 20, 2025, Scholten shared insights from a recent engagement with Kentwood’s Economic Development Corporation. She noted, “While home in the district, I sat alongside Kentwood’s Economic Development Corporation for a roundtable discussion on federal grants, workforce development, and more.” Her commitment to stimulating the local economy through partnerships was emphasized during this meeting.

Later that day, she highlighted another critical area of concern: housing. Scholten stated that “Healthy housing is crucial for healthy communities,” following her meeting with Samika Douglas of the Healthy Homes Coalition of West Michigan. The discussion centered around ensuring access to safe and affordable housing across the community.

The following morning on May 21, Scholten addressed budgetary concerns. She described an early start with a colleague to oppose certain fiscal policies by saying, “Two moms here up bright and early to fight back against Republicans’ dangerous budget proposal that hurts women, children, and families.”

Hillary Scholten’s background includes a BA from Gordon College in 2004 and a JD from the University of Maryland in 2011. Since replacing Peter Meijer in Congress in 2023, she has focused on advocating for her constituents’ needs through direct engagement and policy discussions.
