Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, representing Michigan’s 3rd district since 2023, recently shared a series of tweets addressing various issues and celebrations. Scholten, who was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and holds degrees from Gordon College and the University of Maryland, Baltimore, took to social media to express her views on education, healthcare, and Mother’s Day.

On May 10, 2025, Scholten tweeted about the importance of educators during Teacher Appreciation Week. She expressed gratitude for teachers’ contributions to society and gave a personal nod to her mother who was an educator. “This week and every week, we honor our teachers, who work tirelessly to make our world and future generations better. I’m so grateful for all of the teachers in my life, including my very first: my mom, who spent her career as an educator. Happy #TeacherAppreciationWeek!”

Later that day on May 10th, Scholten addressed concerns about healthcare costs shared by her constituents. She highlighted the financial strain many face due to medical expenses and reaffirmed her commitment to protecting Medicaid as a vital resource. “I’ve heard far too many constituents share similar stories to this one — where life savings, college funds, retirement accounts, and more are drained to cover health care bills. Medicaid is a lifeline for these folks, and I’m working everyday to protect it.”

On May 11th, Scholten marked Mother’s Day by emphasizing her role as the first mother representing West Michigan in Congress. She underscored the importance of supporting programs like Medicaid that benefit new mothers while voicing opposition against policies from former President Trump. “As the first mom to represent West Michigan in Congress, it’s an honor to stand alongside fellow Congressional Mamas to celebrate Mother’s Day and fight to protect the programs that support new moms, like Medicaid.”

Hillary Scholten has been actively serving in Congress since replacing Peter Meijer in 2023.
