Scholten, who succeeded Peter Meijer in Congress, is known for her commitment to the health and security of Americans.

On July 3, 2025, Scholten commented on a speech by Representative Jeffries regarding a contentious bill. She stated, “A historic speech by @RepJeffries for a historically bad bill. @HouseDemocrats are standing up for the health and security of the American people.”

Later that day, she issued a statement about the passage of what she referred to as the “Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill.” Her tweet simply read: “My statement on the passage of Republicans’ Big Ugly Bill: https://t.co/Ri0PsCZzis”

On July 4th, Scholten reflected on Independence Day with a message emphasizing democratic values. She tweeted: “This Independence Day, we reflect on the origin of this holiday: a declaration that Americans will not be dominated by tyrants or ruled by kings. This declaration remains at the heart of our democracy, and at the heart of the work I do every day in Congress.” The congresswoman concluded with her commitment to remain steadfast in her duties.

Hillary Scholten was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and currently resides there. She holds degrees from Gordon College and the University of Maryland.
