Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, representing Michigan’s 3rd district since 2023, has recently shared her views on various legislative matters through a series of tweets. Scholten, who succeeded Peter Meijer in the U.S. Congress, has expressed her commitment to issues concerning transportation infrastructure and economic policies affecting her constituents.

On May 15, 2025, Scholten emphasized her dedication as a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee by highlighting the importance of supporting waterways and those who maintain them. She stated, “As a @TransportDems member, I’m determined to support our waterways and those who maintain them. Muskegon is lucky to be home to the mariners that keep our supply chains flowing.”

The following day, on May 16, 2025, Scholten criticized the House GOP budget bill for its proposed cuts to Medicaid and its impact on working families. She remarked that this proposal failed in the Budget Committee due to its perceived detrimental effects: “The @HouseGOP budget bill slashes Medicaid and makes life more expensive for working families. That’s why this terrible proposal just failed in the Budget Committee.” She reaffirmed her commitment to opposing such measures by stating: “They keep bringing up their terrible, harmful ideas — we’re going to keep pushing back to help hard-working.”

Later that same day, Scholten addressed economic concerns related to tariffs imposed during former President Trump’s administration. She posed a rhetorical question pointing out the financial burden on Michigan residents: “Who is paying for Trump’s tariffs? Michiganders.”

Hillary Scholten was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982 and currently resides there. She graduated from Gordon College with a BA in 2004 and earned a JD from the University of Maryland in Baltimore in 2011.
