Congresswoman Hillary Scholten, who represents Michigan’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently highlighted a series of energy and environmental issues affecting her state through a series of posts on social media.

On August 14, 2025, Scholten criticized recent federal decisions regarding state funding and coal plant management. She wrote, “In a single month, the Trump administration has revoked more than $150 million from our state that was going to help working families manage their energy costs, and made a costly reversal on a coal plant in West Michigan that is COSTING taxpayers close to $100 million to keep”.

Later that day, Scholten promoted local conservation efforts supported by federal grants. On August 14, 2025, she stated: “We’re putting your federal tax dollars to work in Wyoming! The streamside buffer program, which protects Buck Creek (a tributary of the Grand River and Lake Michigan) from erosion and pollutants, was made possible by a grant from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.”

That evening, Scholten also visited Andronaco’s facilities in Kentwood. In her post dated August 14, 2025, she said: “Michigan-based and made in America — that’s the Andronaco way! I enjoyed touring their facilities in Kentwood to learn more about their day-to-day operations and voice my support for our domestic manufacturing industry.”

Hillary Scholten has served as the representative for Michigan’s 3rd District since 2023 after succeeding Peter Meijer. Born in Grand Rapids in 1982 and currently residing there at age 41, Scholten holds degrees from Gordon College (BA) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (JD).
